...Technically speaking Emopanda is right, a hyperthreaded cpu does not count as twice as many. In effect an i7 920 is really only about as effective as 5.5 cores. The reason that they are so much faster however has to do with the movement of the northbridge onto the cpu itself which allows for a much shorter response time between the ram and pci-e bu
